Ebike sales continue to grow, and with more riders comes the need for ebike-specific protection. Enter the MET Intercity Mips, a lighted helmet certified to stand up to the increased impact forces urban ebike riders sometimes encounter.

MET designed the Intercity Mips to meet the NTA 8776 standard — meaning it can dissipate more impact force than your standard helmet (the impact testing speed is 21% higher than average, according to MET). The Intercity Mips also extends coverage around the temples and back of the neck. As you probably gathered from the name, Mips protection is built-in.

Of course, it’s better not to get in a crash at all, which is why MET includes a rechargeable, detachable helmet light. The light attaches using a magnetic system that makes taking it off to charge a snap. Speaking of which, you can get a full charge in about an hour via USB-C.

The light comes with four modes of operation: steady red light, blinking red light, strobe red light, and automatic night-safe mode. The battery life on this thing is about eight hours — more than long enough to handle a few days worth of winter commuting. There’s also a reflective decal on the helmet’s rear for a touch more visibility.

MET included a clear, adjustable polycarbonate visor to help shield your eyes from city dust and debris as a final nod to urban adventuring.

MET built the Intercity Mips with 13 vents, a magnetic buckle, and a 360-degree head belt with vertical adjustment. The removable comfort pads are hand washable, and the straps have adjustable dividers for a dialed fit.

The Intercity Mips comes in small, medium, and large sizes in a range of glossy and matte colorways (we like blue metallic). The small weighs about 15 ounces, while the large comes in at 17 ounces. The helmet costs about $250 at the exchange rate as of this writing.
